Desde ESXi 6.0 venimos viendo avisos de que los procesadores Xeon Westmere iban a dejar de estar soportados y ese momento ha llegado. Muchos tenemos aun funcionando (sin dar el mas minimo problema) algunos HP Proliant G7 y voy a dejar aquí unas notas sobre como actualizar un HP Proliant G7 a ESXi 7.0
QUEDE CLARO:
Este procedimiento puede dejar tu host inoperativo. Yo tengo unos cuantos y me ha funcionado, pero cada uno tenemos una plataforma diferente y venimos de pasar por actualizaciones desde 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, etc…
Si tu host no vuelve a arrancar, obviamente no soy yo el culpable.
VMware no soporta la instalacion en HP Proliant Gen7 desde la version 6.5

Lo primero que debemos es entrar por ssh al host y editar estos archivos:
/altbootbank/boot.cfg y /bootbank/boot.cfg
En ambos, añadimos a la linea kernelopt esto:
allowLegacyCPU=true
En mi caso, queda así, pero no necesariamente tiene que ser el tuyo. Tan solo hay que añadir lo que pongo aqui arriba en AMBOS archivos.
Después, nos descargamos desde VMware el offline bundle de actualización de ESXi 7.0. Se trata de un zip de algo menos de 500MB.
Debemos dejarlo en algun datastore alcanzable por el host ESXi que queremos actualizar.
Ahora entramos en el host G7 por ssh y ejecutamos el siguiente comando:
esxcli software sources profile list -d /vmfs/volume
s/7a9b4b73-00cff73c/VMware-ESXi-7.0U1c-17325551-depot.zip
La parte en roja del comando deberás cambiarla adaptándola a la ruta del datastore de tu entorno.

Ahora nos copiamos el nombre del perfil que queremos usar. Yo elijo el que he marcado en verde, porque tiene un número de compilación más alto y no necesito para nada las VMware tools que vienen incluidas. Todas mis maquinas usan open-vm-tools.
El siguiente paso es fijar ese profile como base para nuestro equipo:

Reiniciamos el host ESXi del Proliant G7. Despues de 5 minutos, deberia volver a responder a ping y volvemos a entrar por SSH.

Es porque no has actualizado tu ESXi 6.5 a las versiones más recientes. Hazle primero un remediate con parches de 6.5 y luego prueba a actualizar.
